Establishment of the “Japan Chess Hall of Fame”

As part of the Japan Chess Federation’s 5th anniversary commemorative initiatives, the “Japan Chess Hall of Fame” was established on February 1, 2024.

Overview

The “Japan Chess Hall of Fame” aims to honor and recognize individuals who have made outstanding contributions to the Japanese chess community over an extended period, preserving their achievements for future generations.
Winners will be announced annually on February 1st, with awards presented at the “Japan Chess Championship” of the same year.
However, if there are no suitable candidates, the board of directors may decide to withhold the award for that year.

Categories of Recognition

  • Players
  • Arbiters
  • Organizers
  • Club Leaders
  • Instructors
  • Trainers, etc.
    Individuals who have made outstanding contributions over an extended period in any of these roles are eligible for recognition.

Recognition

Winners will receive the following recognition:

  • Presentation of awards and commemorative gifts at the opening day of the “Japan Chess Championship” of the award year.
  • Establishment of a “Japan Chess Hall of Fame” section on the federation’s website, featuring the names and achievements of past recipients, among other forms of recognition, etc.
