The Chess Festival 2025 is a 7 round blitz tournament 

This is a team tournament where you compete in pairs with your friends and family.

Find your best BUDDY and come running to Shonan!

Regulations

Date/Venue/Format 

Date: Saturday, June 14, 2025 

Venue: Chigasaki Civic Cultural Hall (Chigasaki City, Kanagawa Prefecture) 

2F, 1-11-1 Chigasaki, Chigasaki, Kanagawa Prefecture (Map) 

8-minute walk from JR Chigasaki Station North Exit 

(55 minutes from Tokyo Station and 30 minutes from Yokohama Station on JR Tokaido Line) 

Format: 7R Swiss, 5min+3sec/move, Unrated

 

Registration: 

  • Conditions for participation: 2 players per team Non-members can also participate 

 

  • Team composition: 1 team must consist of a captain and buddy

 

About absences: 

If there is a change in members due to absences, etc., contact japanchess.info@gmail.com as soon as possible 

If there is an absence, another member can be changed 

If the captain is absent, be sure to submit contact information for another player 

If a member cannot be changed before the day of the event and one member is absent, that seat will be treated as loss by default and one member must participate.

 

  • Entry fee: 3,000 yen per team 

 

  • Registration: Purchase at [ Peatix ] during the application period (maximum: 36 pairs of 72 players) 

Please present the QR code displayed on the Peatix electronic ticket at the tournament registration 

*Please confirm that the QR code is displayed correctly in advance 

*Team name and captain name on Peatix when you register, If your captain is absent, please be sure to share the Peatix QR code with another player.

 

* A “Waiting List” Ticket” will be sold at the same price along with the regular ticket on Peatix.

*Waiting List Ticket

The “Waiting list Ticket” can only be purchased when the event reaches full capacity and regular tickets are sold out. If cancellations occur, participation in the event will be offered to “Waitlist Ticket” holders in the order of purchase, and the ticket price will be applied directly as the participation fee. If the turn on the waitlist does not come, the purchase price will be refunded.

Additionally, if a “Waitlist Ticket” holder becomes eligible to participate in the event, a notification will be sent to the registered email address.

 

  • Cancellation Policy

If you wish to cancel your participation in the tournament, you must notify us via email at japanchess.info@gmail.com.

– Cancellations made by 23:59 on June 6, 2025 (8 days before the tournament):

  • If the tournament has not reached full capacity – Full refund
  • If the tournament has reached full capacity – No refund

– Cancellations made on or after June 7, 2025 (7 days before the tournament):

  • No refund under any circumstances
  • If the tournament is canceled due to natural disasters or organizer-related reasons, alternative measures will be considered.

– All refunds will be processed according to Peatix’s regulations.

A Chess Problem solving contest will be held in parallel with the Blitz tournament 

Pair up for a total of 5 Problem challenges and win prizes!

Award certificates and Shonan goods to the top 3 teams and certificates to 4th-8th place 

In addition to this, award unique prizes such as Best Family Prize, Best Friend Prize, Great Buddy Prize, etc.

Other Regulations

Tournament Rules 

Game Points: a win is worth 1 point, a draw is worth 0.5 points, and a loss is worth 0 points.

Match points: Winning teams will receive 2 points, ties will receive 1 point each, and losing teams will receive 0 points.

Rankings: Rankings will be determined by the sum of match points. In case of a tie, the ranking will be determined by the following tie-break.

Tiebreakers: 

(1) Points (total game points) 

(2) Results of the teams (results of the teams’ head-to-head match-ups) 

(3) Buchholz (total match points of all opposing teams) 

(4) Sonneborn-Berger (sum of the match points of the winning team and half of the match points of the drawn team)

(5) Lottery

 

Default Time: The default time is zero. If the player is not seated at the beginning of the game, he/she loses the game.

 

Advance Bye: A player who byes the game for personal reasons will be declared a no-show.

 

Clocks, chess sets, and result sheets must be provided by the organizer.

 

Both captains sign the result sheet and give it to the arbiter.

 

If an observer speaks to or makes eye contact with a player during the game, the player will be penalized or lose the game for a foul. If an observer needs to give a player a drink or writing utensil during the game, he or she must obtain permission from the arbiter and give it to the player via the arbiter. Handing them directly to a player will result in a penalty or a loss due to foul play.

During the game, if something is bothering you, observers should not point it out directly, but call the arbiter.

 

Cell phones, tablets, smart watches, and other electronic devices must be turned off completely during the game and put away in a bag. They must not be worn during the match, and taking them out of the venue in a bag is prohibited. This rule applies regardless of whether or not electronic devices are turned on, and players who violate this rule will lose the match immediately. However, if a player has to carry an electronic device such as a cell phone during the game due to unavoidable circumstances, he/she must submit a request to japanchess.info@gmail.com with the reason for the use of the device. Possession of such devices will be permitted only if the organizer approves the application after taking the circumstances into consideration.

 

Anything other than the above will be judged according to FIDE rules. For example, an illegal move is an infraction and will result in a second loss. Mistakenly pressing the clock, using both hands, etc. are also infractions.

 

Media Related Rules

  • The results of the tournament will be published on the Internet (chess-results.com) for reporting purposes. The results of the tournament may also be published on the Internet (chess-results.com). Participants agree to disclose their names, results and game records.
  • Photography by observers is permitted at any time during the tournament.
  • When using photographs or videos of participants by individuals (during games, award ceremonies, etc.), care must be taken to protect the privacy of the participants. In addition to obtaining comprehensive consent in advance, sufficient consideration must be given to the protection of personal information and portrait rights, for example, in the case of minors, be sure to obtain permission from their guardians.
  • The organizers may take photographs, shoot videos, and broadcast live coverage of the competition. These may be published on websites, SNS, video websites, magazines, and other media managed by the Federation, or provided to the mass media in case of interviews. Participants agree to the publication of these photos and videos, and to the live broadcast.

 

Others 

  • The organizer reserves the right to change the above rules for appropriate reasons before the start of a round.
  • If you have a fever or feel unwell, you must notify the staff and leave the venue immediately. The organizer may ask you to leave the venue if it is judged that you are obviously ill.
  • The wearing of masks in the venue is left to the discretion of the individual. Even if there is no obvious health problem, the organizer may ask you to wear a new non-woven mask if you have symptoms such as coughing or sneezing due to hay fever or other allergies.
  • The Japan Chess Federation assumes no responsibility for any trouble that may occur between individuals.

You can also get a timetable for the community bus to get to the beach.

 

 

 

Southern Beach 

Let’s start here 

20 minutes walk from South Exit of Chigasaki Station, 10 minutes by community bus. 

The beach is famous for the big “C” monument. The “C” is not for Chess. 

There are several cafes with a view of the sea, so it is COOL to have a meal on the terrace. 

If you lose the game, you and Buddy can stand side by side on the beach and look out at the sea.

 

 

 

Square in front of City Hall 

Next to Chigasaki Cultural Hall where the venue is located is City Hall 

In front of it is a large grassy square 

You can buy lunch and eat it on the stairs in front of ALOHA 

Chigasaki is a sister city with Honolulu, so many events related to Hawaii will be held

8 minute walk from Chigasaki Station South Exit on Yuzo Street.

 

 

Famous shirasu-don and kaisen-don are here 

Eboshi, Kattobi, and Amimoto Ryori Asamaru are famous 

Kattobi has a branch in Lusca, a station building directly connected to Chigasaki station 

 

There are also many izakaya around the station 

There are many good local sake and beer in Chigasaki, check them out.

 

Recommended souvenirs 

Shirasu 

Kama-age shirasu is famous, but fresh shirasu is also available in June.

 

Shonan Cookies 

A famous cookie vending machine in Shonan area 

Just recently installed in front of Soyora Shonan Chigasaki 

All are reputed to be delicious, but I recommend the Aosa cookies.

 

 

 

The station building Laska, directly connected to the station, sells many sweets that make great souvenirs. 

Ile du chocolat’s pie pastries made in the shape of shells and fish make great souvenirs.

 

 

With any luck, you’ll get to see Mt. Fuji and win in Shonan
