2020 Chess Olympiad Players Selection Criteria

The player selection criteria for 2020 Khanty-Mansiysk, Russia Chess Olympiad (postponed to summer 2021) is as follows:

Open Section:
The first 2 players will be chosen from 2019 Japan Open (November). The others will be selected from 2020 Japan Chess Championship (Oct, 2020). If the selected players from Japan Open decline, the selection will be made from the result of Japan Chess Championship. A total of 5 players will be selected.
Tie-breaks will be used for the selection. Only the players who are registered under chess federation of Japan will qualify for the Olympiad.
For players who newly transferred their chess federation to Japan, it has to be at least 2 years before becoming eligible for selection.

Women Section:
The first 3 players from 2019 Japan Women’s Chess Championship will be selected. 2 other players will be selected from 2019 Japan Open. If the selected players decline, the next selection will be made from 2019 Japan Women’s National Chess Championship. A total of 5 players will be selected.
Tie-breaks will be used for the selection. Only the players under chess federation of Japan will qualify for the Olympiad. For players who newly transferred their chess federation to Japan, it has to be at least 2 years before becoming eligible for selection.
