  FIDE Chess Olympiad is a major international chess tournament organized by FIDE (the International Chess Federation). It’s the biennial team event where countries/regions from around the world send their best players to compete against one another.

  This year, TEAM JAPAN will compete with the best members at the 45th Chess Olympiad in Budapest! Facing off against top players from around the world, they aim for outstanding results!

Public Viewing

On Sunday, September 22, “Public Viewing” will be held to gather and support the Japan teams in the 11th and final round.

We regret to inform you that the public viewing event for the final round of the Chess Olympiad 2024, originally scheduled for Sunday, September 22nd, has been canceled due to unforeseen circumstances. We sincerely apologize to those who were looking forward to the event.

Rules
  • Format: 4-players team tournament,  11-round Swiss.
  • Each team has 5 players, and 4 players will be selected for each round.  Board order will be determined in accordance with the pre-registered order.
  • Each player earns 1 point for a win, 0.5 point for draw, and 0 point for a loss, and the team with more points wins the match.
  • Team pairing will be determined by the match points, or the points of the team, which is calculated as a win scores 2 points, a draw scores 1 point, and a loss scores 0 point.
  • The time control is 90 minutes for the first 40 moves, followed by 30 minutes for the rest of the game with an increment of 30 seconds per move starting from move 1.
  • Players are not allowed to draw a game by mutual agreement before black’s 30th move.
