Course Qualification
This event is for beginners wishing to try chess.
Those with no experience or beginners, as well as parent-child pairs, are welcome.
Lecturer
Uehara Shinpei
Began playing chess in 2005, winning the Summer Open in 2009
Commenced activities at Kichijoji Chess Club as a resident staff member and instructor, accumulating teaching experience
Currently teaches numerous lessons, primarily to beginners and intermediate players, catering to both individuals and groups.
Renowned for their approachable nature and meticulous teaching that prioritises fundamentals, they are highly regarded for being ‘easy to understand and enjoyable’.
From 2025, he will serve as the weekly Thursday staff at the Chess Centre Ueno.

Members – 2,000 yen
Non-members – 3,000 yen
Limit: 10 spots
Purchase tickets through [Peatix] during the application period
Please present your electronic ticket QR code at reception.
“Waiting list tickets” could be purchased only after the usual participation ticket got sold out.
*Waiting list tickets:
Those who purchased the “Waiting list ticket” can register for the event when there was a cancellation in order. The order of registration will be based on how early the player put their name on the waiting list, and the ticket fee will be accounted for as the participation fee. If there were not enough cancellations to make a spot for players in the waiting list until one week before the event, the ticket fee will be refunded. An e-mail will be sent to the registered address if participation becomes possible.

* If capacity is not reached – full refund
* If capacity has been reached – no refunds - Cancellation after April 22, 2026 (7 days before the event):
* No refund for any reason
* If the seminar is cancelled due to a natural disaster or for reasons attributable to the organizer, a separate action will be considered. - Refunds will be processed in accordance with Peatix regulations.

- Can I participate even if I have no chess experience?
- Absolutely. You can learn the basics in a single day.
- What should I bring?
- Please bring a ballpoint pen.
- Can I observe?
- Minors may be accompanied by one guardian free of charge.
- Can I eat or drink at the venue?
- Food and drink may be consumed within Chess Centre UENO; however, due to the smooth running of events, we kindly request that you refrain from eating during events.

- To protect privacy, taking photos of other participants without their permission is prohibited.
- The organizer may take photographs and videos of this event. These may be published and used on websites, SNS, video sites, magazines, and other media managed by the Japan Chess Federation. Participants are assumed to have consented to the publication of these photographs and videos.
