​​On Sundays during even-numbered months, we hold a beginner-friendly “Tournament  Experience Session” at Chess Center UENO!

This is the perfect time for rookies dreaming of their official tournament debut.

A major feature of this event is the presence of an “Advisor” available for any questions.

Through this event, you’ll learn the mindset and etiquette needed to participate  in official tournaments.

Additionally, we’ll teach you how to record your chess games.

Your first step to the official tournament starts here!

You may participate only once.

Regulations

Date: Monday, October 12, 2026

Venue: Chess Center UENO

2-11-3-101 Kita-Ueno, Taito-ku, Tokyo (Map)

Tokyo Metro Hibiya Line Iriya station 8 minutes by walking

Tokyo Metro Ginza Line Inaricho station 9 minutes by walking

JR/Tokyo Metro Ueno station 11 minutes by walking

Format: All participants will play 3 games, not a knock-out competition. Time control is 15 minutes, with 10 seconds added for each move. This is a non-rated tournament.

Pairings: Pairings will be made on the day of the tournament so that at least one game can be played by White or Black. Also, as far as possible, the pairings will be made between the winners or losers of the second and subsequent rounds.

Important Notes: You may participate in only one session: either the morning session (3 matches) or the afternoon session (3 matches).

Registration

Entry criteria:  Players who have just learned the rules of chess or would like to get a feel for what a chess tournament is like.

*This event is designed to help participants become familiar with how games are played and the overall atmosphere of a tournament. Even if you have played in a tournament before, you are very welcome to join if you still feel unsure about game procedures or tournament flow.

*Please refrain from registering if you are an experienced tournament player or have extensive experience playing in official rated tournaments.

Entry Fee: 2,000 yen for members, 3,000 yen for non-members

For members, please make sure that your membership is effective until the date of the tournament.

Registration: Registration: Purchase tickets through

during the registration period (Limit: 12 spots each)

You cannot purchase tickets for both the morning and afternoon sessions.

Registration Period: From 12:00 on September 12, 2026 to 23:59 on October 09, 2026

Waiting List ticket (Only for members):

  • A “Waiting List Ticket” will be sold at the same price along with the normal “Ticket” on Peatix.
  • A “Waiting List Ticket” may be purchased only when regular tickets have sold out due to capacity being reached. If a cancellation occurs, participation will be offered to waitlist ticket holders in the order of purchase, and the amount paid will be applied to the entry fee. When participation becomes available, a notification will be sent to the registered email address.
  • Waitlist arrangements will be handled up to October 10, 2026 (2 days before the tournament).
  • If the turn on the waiting list does not come up, the full purchase price will be refunded.

 Cancellation Policy

　If you wish to cancel your participation in the tournament, you must notify us via email at  japanchess.info@gmail.com.

  • Cancellations made by September 28, 2026 (14 days before the tournament): Full refund
  • Cancellations made on or after September 29, 2026 No refund under any circumstances

　* If the tournament is canceled due to natural disasters or organizer-related reasons, alternative measures will be considered.

　* All refunds will be processed according to Peatix’s regulations.

Others

  • Be sure to bring a pen when you attend the tournament.
  • Clocks and chess sets will be provided by the organizer.
  • All electronic devices including smartphones, tablets or smartwatches must be turned off and stored away. Players are not allowed to keep it on him/her or take it outside of the venue in a bag. When a player breaks these rules, his/her game shall be immediately lost. Just the mere sounding or wearing of an electronic device is a loss.
  • If you have a fever or feel unwell, please notify the staff and leave the venue immediately. The organizer may ask you to leave the venue if it is obvious that you are not feeling well.
  • Wearing a mask in the venue is at the discretion of the individual. Even in the absence of obvious health problems, you may be asked to wear a new non-woven mask if you have hay fever or other symptoms such as coughing or sneezing.
  • The rules of the game will be the same as in a regular tournament. However, illegal moves will not be considered as a foul in this trial event.
  • Normally, there is a waiting room separate from the game room where games can be reviewed. However, this time, due to the convenience of the venue, there is no waiting room.
    After your game is over, please be quiet in the game room and be considerate of the players around you.
  • If necessary, parents are requested to stay inside the venue.
  • Photographs and videos taken at the event may be used on the JCF official homepage, digital platforms (Youtube etc.), and in JCF official magazines, etc.
  • The time of the event may be changed or the event may be cancelled due to unavoidable circumstances.
  • The Japan Chess Federation cannot be held responsible for any problems that occur between individuals.
  • If there is a discrepancy between English and Japanese, the Japanese version prevails.
