Lecturer

Hiroshi Manabe 

Born in 1966, Hiroshi Manabe began playing chess seriously after the age of 30, and has won many championships and prizes. He also served for a long time as an endgame editor of “Problem Paradise”, a magazine specializing in chess problems. He has been a director of the Japan Chess Federation since 2022, and President since the following year, 2023.

 

Major chess prizes won:

2007 Tokyo Open 3rd place, Rapid Championship 4th place

2008 Japan League 2nd place, Japan Open 4th place

2010 All Japan Hyakketsu Tournament, 4th place; Kaisoku Championship, 4th place; Team Championship, 1st place

2017, 2018, 2023 Senior Championship winner

What is Chess Spring Seminar 2025?

This 3-day workshop is designed for players who want to improve their rating and win prizes in tournaments by developing their Endgame skills, which are the key to winning or losing games.

Please use a standard domestic rating of 1200 to 1500 as a guideline for participation.

Fee and Registration

Fee: ¥15,000

 

Registration: Purchase tickets through [Peatix] during the application period (Limit: 10 spots)

 

“Waiting list tickets” could be purchased only after the usual participation ticket got sold out.

Those who purchased the “Waiting list ticket” can register for the tournament when there was a cancellation in order. The order of registration will be based on how early the player put their name on the waiting list, and the ticket fee will be accounted for as the participation fee. If there were not enough cancellations to make a spot for players in the waiting list until one week before the tournament, the ticket fee will be returned. An e-mail will be sent to the registered address if participation becomes possible.

Cancellation Policy

If you need to cancel your participation, please be sure to email japanchess.info@gmail.com.

  • Cancellation by 23:59 on April 4, 2025 (8 days before the tournament):
    * If capacity is not reached – full refund
    * If capacity has been reached – no refunds
  • Cancellation after April 5, 2025 (7 days before the tournament):
    * No refund for any reason
    * If the seminar is cancelled due to a natural disaster or for reasons attributable to the organizer, a separate action will be considered.
  • Refunds will be processed in accordance with Peatix regulations.

 

Special offers

  • If you participate in any of the official tournaments held from April to June, you will receive a game record correction for one of those games.
  • All participants will receive a commemorative gift.

 

Q&A

Q. Can I apply for a class above my current rating?

A. It is possible. However, please refer to the lecture content with reference to a rating of 1200~1500.

 

Q. Is there a waiting room like in a regular tournament?

A. There is no waiting room. Only one accompanying parent/guardian is allowed to visit the venue.

 

Q. Can we eat and drink at the venue?

A. Eating and drinking are allowed in Chess Center UENO on the day of the event.

 

Others

  • To protect privacy, taking photos of other participants without their permission is prohibited.
  • The organizer may take photographs and videos of this event. These may be published and used on websites, SNS, video sites, magazines, and other media managed by the Japan Chess Federation. Participants are assumed to have consented to the publication of these photographs and videos.

  • If you are late or will not attend, please contact japanchess.info@gmail.com .
    Please refer to the “Cancellation Policy” for a refund of the participation fee.
  • The Japan Chess Federation is not responsible for any problems that occur between individuals.
  • If there is a discrepancy between English and Japanese, the Japanese version prevails.
