Date(s): August 10(Sat), 11(Sun) and 12(Mon&Holiday), 10:30 – 17:00 for each course

Lecturer

FIDE Master Yamada Kohei

Born in 1988. He was the first Japanese national to be certified as a FIDE Instructor, and has been giving lectures and spreading the word in person and online. He teaches at the official video distribution of the Japan Chess Federation and writes a series of articles for Chess Magazine. As a player, he has represented Japan at the Asian Games (2010, 2022) and Chess Olympiad (2010, 2016, 2018, 2024). He has won many domestic tournaments and was the first sponsored player in Japan.

 

Course Qualification

Elementary school students who are annual members of the Japan Chess Federation (must know basic rules such as how to move pieces)

*Please make sure that your membership is valid until the day of the event. If you are not a member, please purchase a ticket on [Peatix] and register as a member as soon as possible.

If there are vacancies for elementary school students, they will be moved up to the next level.

 

 

What is Chess Summer School 2024?

・Chess group lessons with lectures at three levels: Beginner, Intermediate, and Advanced. 

・Each class is limited to 10 students.

  Only in the case of a combination of Beginner and Intermediate or Intermediate and Advanced, it is possible to take two classes.

 

 

Classification guidelines

(refer to the domestic Rapid Ratings)

Beginner: Rating 800 and below 

Intermediate: Ratings 800-1000 

Advanced: Rated 1000 or higher and those who wish to achieve higher ranks in competitive chess in the future. 

*Subject to change depending on the number of applications for each class.

Lecture content

The course will be in Japanese.

We will not only lecture but also think carefully, solve problems together, and spend time learning according to children’s interests.

At the end, let’s have fun and excitement with a blitz contest with Kohei-sensei!

【Q&A】

Q. Can I apply for multiple dates (classes)?

A.You can apply for two classes only for Beginner and Intermediate, and Intermediate and Advanced.

 

Q. Can I apply for a class above my current rating?

A. Yes, it is possible. However, please make sure that the overall length of the lecture is long, and make your decision based on the lecture content and other information above.

 

Q. Is there a waiting room where parents can wait, as in a regular convention?

A. We plan to prepare a waiting room near the venue.

 

Q. Where can we have lunch?

A. You can eat at restaurants near the venue or in the Chess Center UENO during the summer school. Please use this option as well.

 

Cancellation Policy

  • Cancellation must be noticed to japanchess.info@gmail.com

  • If cancellation is made 8-days before the registration deadline and the number of participants has not reached to the maximum number, a refund will be made.

  • We do not refund from 7-days before the registration deadline. We do not refund once the number of applicants has reached the maximum.

  • Please be careful to protect the privacy of participants when using their photos and videos. In addition to obtaining prior consent, please give sufficient consideration to the protection of personal information and portrait rights, for example, in the case of minors, be sure to obtain permission from their parents or guardians.

     

  • The organizers may take photographs and videos of this event. These may be published and used on websites, SNS, video sites, magazines, and other media managed by the Japan Chess Federation. Participants are assumed to have consented to the publication of these photographs and videos.

  • For a refund of the participation fee, please refer to the “Cancellation Policy.

     

  • The Japan Chess Federation will not be responsible for any problems that occur between individuals.
