Overview of Overseas Tournaments
As a member organization of the International Chess Federation (FIDE) and the Asian Chess Federation, the Japan Chess Federation supports members in participating in the following tournaments through assistance with the application process.
World Events
World events are open to all FIDE member countries.
Asian Events
Asian events are open to countries in FIDE Zones 3.1 to 3.8 (*1).
Eastern Asia Events
Eastern Asia events are open to countries in Zones 3.3 and 3.5.
The schedule and location of these tournaments vary each year.
U20 standard tournaments have both invitation slots (*2) and direct titles (*3). For general and senior categories, direct titles are also available, except for the U1700 category in Asian Amateur events.
The tournaments listed in the table below include those for which the federation applies as well as those for individual applications. Among the tournaments applied for by the federation, some have invitation slots while others do not. For tournaments with invitation slots, details will be provided at the time of the tournament announcement.
When the federation handles the registration, participation may be declined for individuals with limited official tournament experience, regardless of invitation status. Additionally, participants must have a basic understanding of chess rules, the ability to record notations, and basic English communication skills with arbiters.

For the latest information on overseas tournaments, please check here.
※1
Invitation slots are determined based on results in the Japan Youth/Cadets Championships. For participants with an invitation slot, the organizer will cover board & lodging, in principle.
Even if a player has not participated in these championships, outstanding results, such as high ratings or top placements in national tournaments, may qualify them for an invitation slot on an exceptional basis. In such cases, a selection will still be made, but it does not guarantee anything.
If a player was unable to participate in these championships due to an overseas tournament, their selection may be based on their rating as an exceptional case.
※3
Direct titles are awarded based on placement in designated tournaments, without adhering to standard title requirements. Titles are granted once the player achieves the rating specified in the direct title regulations.
Additional information on tournaments in neighboring countries will also be posted as appropriate. For tournaments without invitation slots, please apply individually.
