<About Japan Open>

The Japan Open is one of Japan’s largest chess tournaments, with a history spanning more than 50 years.

Starting last year, the tournament was expanded to five days and nine rounds, and upgraded to an open tournament where players can earn norms required to obtain an international title for the first time in Japan.

Last year’s tournament attracted 176 players from 21 countries, including four Grandmasters, making it the largest edition in the tournament’s history.
