Rookies Chess 2023 Autumn (For Newbies)

Regulations 

Dates/Venue/Format

  • Date: Saturday, November 25th
  • Venue: Ikegami Hall 5th Floor, Audiovisual Room
    1-32-8 Ikegami, Ota-ku, Tokyo (map)
  • Format:  3 Rounds, Swiss (pairing may not follow the FIDE system), 15 min + 10 sec/move, Unrated
  • It is possible to participate in both Rookies Chess and Step-up Chess Tournament.

Registration

  • Entry criteria: Beginners (Recommended for players with Chess.com rating under 1200 a/o Lichess rating under 1400) 
  • Entry fee: 2,000 yen for members, 3,000 yen for non-members
    For members, please make sure that your membership is effective until the date of the tournament.
  • Registration: Purchase tickets through [Peatix] during the application period (Limit: 32 spots)
    “Waiting list tickets” could be purchased only after the usual participation ticket got sold out.

    Those who purchased the “Waiting list ticket” can register for the tournament when there were a cancel in order. The order of registration will be based on how early the player put their name on the waiting list, and the ticket fee will be accounted as the participation fee. If there were not enough cancels to make a spot for players in the waiting list until one week before the tournament, the ticket fee will be returned.
  • Registration Period: From 18:00 on Sunday, October 8, 2023 to  23:59 on Wednesday, November 22, 2023

Event Details

  • There is no prize since this tournament is for beginners.
  • It would be useful to look through the “Guide to Participating in Your First Chess Tournament” page before the tournament.
  • The organizer will provide chess equipment, including clocks.
  • Players need NOT record all moves, but let’s do it if you can. 
  • All electronic devices, including smartwatches, must be turned off and stored away, not to be touched or carried out of the playing room during the game. If a player is found with a mobile device during the game, the player loses the game.
  • All players have to agree to the above rules and the COVID-19 Guidelines 4th Edition.
    (Revisions will be made in light of the currently planned changes of the position of COVID-19 under the Infectious Disease Control Law and the related revision of the mask-wearing rule, etc.)
  • The tournament will follow FIDE rules unless otherwise stated above. However, making illegal moves will not result in lose of the game.
  • The organizer reserves the right to change the above conditions in case of reasonable cases before the first round begins. 
  • Please be advised that photographs will be taken at the event for use on the japanchess.org website, in the press, and other publications. By entering this event, you consent to Japan Chess Federation photographing and using your image and likeness.
  • Due to some unforeseen incidents and/or because of the pandemic situation, the tournament may be postponed or cancelled with short notice. Thank you for your understanding.
  • If cancellation is made before the day 8-days before the registration deadline and the number of participants has not reached the maximum number, a refund will be made. We do not refund from 7-days before the application deadline. We do not refund once the number of applicants has reached the maximum.
